Harvey Weinstein Faces Cancer Diagnosis While Incarcerated

Read Time:53 Second

Former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, 72, has reportedly been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, a bone marrow cancer, while serving time at New York’s Rikers Island. Details of his medical condition emerged despite his healthcare team’s efforts to maintain privacy, with his legal health representative Craig Rothfeld and spokesperson Juda Engelmayer expressing concern over the public disclosure of personal health information.

The condition, which primarily affects older adults, typically progresses slowly and can be managed with contemporary medical treatments. Weinstein’s health challenges have become increasingly apparent, necessitating a recent emergency procedure at Bellevue Hospital to drain fluid from his heart and lungs. His deteriorating condition has required wheelchair assistance during court appearances.

Currently, Weinstein faces a scheduled retrial on November 12, following the reversal of his 2020 convictions for rape and sexual assault, for which he had received a 23-year sentence. He continues to assert his innocence despite mounting accusations, including a new allegation of sexual misconduct filed in September. Throughout his legal proceedings and health struggles, Weinstein has maintained his position of non-guilt.
