The World Health Organization (WHO) has sounded a global alarm after confirming an outbreak of the Marburg virus, a highly lethal disease related to Ebola. The outbreak, detected in Tanzania’s Kagera region last week, has resulted in eight deaths and dozens of infections.
The Marburg virus is known for causing severe hemorrhagic fever with a fatality rate of up to 90%. Early symptoms include high fever, intense headaches, and exhaustion, which can escalate to severe internal and external bleeding.
With no approved treatments or vaccines currently available, health officials face significant challenges in controlling the virus. WHO and international health teams are working to contain the outbreak and prevent its spread.
