Georgia Passes Regulatory Reform Bill

Read Time:50 Second

The Georgia state Senate has approved Senate Bill 28, known as the “Red Tape Rollback Act of 2025,” along partisan lines. This legislation requires state agencies to conduct reviews and updates of regulations every four years, with a focus on evaluating cost-effectiveness and gathering public feedback on potential cost reductions.

Democratic lawmakers have voiced strong opposition, drawing parallels between this bill and the federal Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) headed by Elon Musk. State Senator Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) characterized the measure as “a power grab” and “DOGE coming to Georgia.”

Republican Senator Greg Dolezal (R-Cumming) countered these criticisms, noting that similar legislation had previously received bipartisan support before President Trump’s return to office, suggesting the current opposition is politically motivated.

Proponents claim the bill will benefit small businesses and enhance governmental efficiency by increasing agency accountability and reducing regulatory burdens. The legislation now advances to the Georgia House for further deliberation, potentially bringing significant changes to Georgia’s regulatory review process if enacted.
