Emmanuel Macron and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte have urged European nations to maintain unwavering military support for Ukraine amidst growing concerns about the United States’ future involvement if Donald Trump returns to power.
Speaking on Tuesday before a meeting with NATO Secretary General, Macron emphasized that “support for Ukraine, attacked by Russia, remains an absolute priority.” He highlighted the escalation with North Korea reportedly deploying troops to aid Russian forces, calling it a “serious escalation.”
Macron stressed the need for NATO’s sustained backing of Ukraine, stating, “This is the only path to negotiations.” He also insisted that any future peace talks should not exclude Ukraine or Europe from decision-making processes. Macron admitted that Europe has long avoided taking full responsibility for its security, a critique often raised by Trump. However, he noted that France has consistently met its defense commitments.
This firm stance aims to reassure allies and counter doubts about Europe’s resolve as geopolitical uncertainties grow.
