France Braces for Severe Flooding as Intense Rainfall Batters Southern Regions

Read Time:39 Second

Southern France is currently grappling with a major weather crisis as heavy rainfall triggers widespread flooding. The deluge, caused by the aftermath of Hurricane Leslie, has surpassed initial predictions for Wednesday and Thursday, with forecasts indicating further inundation in the hours ahead.

Weather experts attribute the extreme conditions to a low-pressure system intensifying atmospheric moisture. Precipitation levels are reaching critical thresholds: the Cévennes area is projected to receive 200-300mm, while 80-120mm is expected in Var and Alpes-Maritimes. Regions from northern Occitanie to Burgundy may see up to 80mm of rain.

Southeastern France is set to endure a month’s worth of rainfall in just 48 hours. The wet weather is predicted to persist through Friday, extending the flood risk across large swathes of the nation.
