With the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine coming to an end, fans and scouts are getting excited about the NFL Draft in April. At Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium, hopefuls displayed their abilities, and a number of notable players surfaced who may boost their draft stock and possibly get a desired first-round slot. Four of them caught people’s attention with their remarkable feats of skill and agility.
- Quinyon Mitchell, Toledo (CB):
Quinyon Mitchell, who was before thought to be a marginal first-round talent, cemented his position as one of the best defensive players in this year’s draft class with a dominant showing. At six feet tall and 195 pounds, Mitchell has the perfect physical characteristics that NFL scouts look for. Mitchell dispelled skeptics with a dominant performance in the Senior Bowl, allaying worries about the caliber of opposition he might see in a league outside of the Power 5. Mitchell demonstrated his remarkable strength and speed in the combine, finishing second among all cornerbacks this year with a 40-yard dash pace of 4.33 seconds. His 20 repetitions on the bench press and his 38-inch vertical leap on the same exercise further demonstrated his athleticism and adaptability. Mitchell is now a strong candidate to be the first defensive pick chosen in the 2024 NFL Draft because of his demonstrated ability to dominate against elite FBS opponents.
- Georgia’s Amarius Mims, OT:
With his impressive physical attributes on display at the combine, 6-foot-8-inch and 340-pound Amarius Mims solidified his standing as a possible first-round selection. Even though Mims didn’t have much starting experience in college, his massive frame and exceptional hand and arm length make him a highly sought-after offensive tackle prospect. Mims demonstrated his remarkable speed and agility in relation to his stature in the 40-yard sprint, clocking it at 5.07 seconds. He is a top-tier player who can anchor an NFL offensive line due to his unusual mix of length and quickness. Mims’ draft value is rising as scouts take note of his impressive performance at the combine; he is now expected to be among the first picks in the forthcoming draft.
- Washington’s Troy Fautanu, OL:
With his outstanding performance at the combine, Troy Fautanu—a decorated lineman out of Washington—established himself as one of the top prospects in this year’s draft class. Fautanu’s stature initially raised questions about whether he should play a different position, but his powerful physique and athleticism were clearly seen in Indianapolis. Standing 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 317 pounds, Fautanu dazzled scouts with his exceptional arm length and quickness, demonstrating his flexibility as a possible starting tackle in the NFL. His exceptional performance in a number of combine activities, which included a 5.01-second 40-yard sprint and strong results in the vertical and broad leaps, cemented his place in the first round of the draft. With his unmatched skill set and athleticism, Fautanu is certain to become one of the most sought-after prospects in the 2017 draft.
- Penn State’s Chop Robinson, DE:
Chop Robinson, following in the traditions of prior Penn State greats, performed a remarkable showing at the combine that is poised to raise his draft value. Scouts were astounded by Robinson’s incredible display of speed and agility, even though he was already well-known for his explosive athleticism and pass-rushing ability. Dubbed “Chop,” Robinson demonstrated his extraordinary quickness with a lightning-fast 40-yard sprint timing of 4.48 seconds, which was among the fastest for his position. Further highlighting his unique athleticism and explosiveness off the edge was his remarkable broad jump, which matched for the best among defensive ends this year. Robinson solidified his status as a probable first-round pick and an impact player at the next level with his outstanding performance at the combine.
After the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, these four exceptional players have shown themselves to be strong contenders to get into the first round of the eagerly awaited NFL Draft. Given their extraordinary talent, athleticism, and promise, Robinson, Mitchell, Mims, and Fautanu are all expected to have successful NFL careers and make a lasting impression on the league in the years to come.
