Fatal Incident: Eight Dead in Serbian Railway Station Roof Collapse

Read Time:48 Second

A devastating structural failure at Novi Sad’s railway station in Serbia claimed eight lives and left two injured when a concrete roof section collapsed on Friday. One of the injured remains in critical condition. The incident occurred at the station’s entrance, mere months after its July reopening following a three-year renovation project.

“Eight bodies have been recovered… two people are in hospital, one critically injured,” confirmed Interior Minister Ivica Dacic. More than 80 rescue workers are currently deployed with heavy equipment, searching through the wreckage for potential survivors.

Investigators have yet to determine what caused the collapse, though security cameras show people walking normally in the area moments before the disaster. Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, describing it as “a black Friday for Serbia,” pledged to investigate thoroughly and ensure accountability for any lapses in structural safety.

While the station had undergone extensive modernization work, construction activities were still ongoing in certain areas when the tragedy occurred.
