Investigations into a disturbing occurrence that happened on Sunday during a live-streamed church service are currently underway by law enforcement officials in Western Pennsylvania. A terrifying incident was caught on camera when a 26-year-old man pointed a gun at a preacher at Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock. The gun malfunctioned fortunately, averting a potential tragedy as the scenario suddenly became dangerous.

Just before 1:10 p.m., the suspect—Bernard Junior Polite, according to Pennsylvania State Police—entered the church’s grounds and made an attempt to kill the pastor, Glenn Germany, during his sermon. Nevertheless, it appeared as though supernatural intervention was in effect because the gun did not discharge, saving the lives of all in attendance.

Witnesses described the tense incident as seen on video that USA TODAY was able to obtain. The video showed the armed guy approaching the pastor before a courageous churchgoer attacked him. The 63-year-old deacon Clarence McCallister moved quickly to help disarm the suspect and save more damage.

Pastor Germany described the terrifying moment when the suspect—who had just smiled at him—pulled out the gun in an interview with USA TODAY. Luckily, the gun jammed, allowing the gathered people time to respond and take down the attacker.

It was not the end of the ordeal. At 8:15 p.m. the same evening, the Allegheny County Police discovered a sombre discovery at the suspect’s residence: the body of a 56-year-old North Braddock resident named Derek Polite. The fact that the victim died from gunshot wounds raises concerns about the deceased’s relationship to the suspect.

Investigations are ongoing, thus it is yet unknown why these awful events occurred. Just seconds before the attempted shooting, Pastor Germany was speaking about miracles and supernatural protection. He expressed thanks that things didn’t get worse. He underlined how crucial it is for the congregation to unite in solidarity and support during these trying times.

Even though no formal charges have been brought in relation to Derek Polite’s murder, law enforcement officials are actively investigating the incident. The neighbourhood is still in disbelief as it deals with the fallout from this disturbing event.

Pastor Germany and his congregation are turning to their faith for comfort in the midst of hardship, relying on one another for support and understanding. They cling to optimism and keep looking for comfort and tranquilly in the midst of the mayhem while they wait for more information from the authorities.

As law enforcement authorities put out great effort to piece together the details surrounding these horrific occurrences, stay tuned for more developments on this evolving story.
