Disney has introduced the “Lightning Lane Premier Pass,” offering visitors a quicker and more convenient way to experience its parks, but at a steep cost—sometimes exceeding the price of the park ticket itself. The “Lightning Lane Premier Pass” was officially revealed by Disney on Wednesday, providing a streamlined experience for park visitors, though it comes with a significant price tag. Priced per person and varying based on day and demand, the pass will be available at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida beginning October 30, with prices ranging from $137.39 to $478.19 per day. Meanwhile, at Disneyland Resort in California, the pass will cost $400 per person per day for the rest of 2024, with variable pricing from $300 to $400 starting in 2025.
How It Works
This new pass allows guests to skip lines and gain faster access to rides at both Disney World and Disneyland, though each resort has its own system.
At Disney World, the price of the Premier Pass depends on the park and time of year. For example, a pass for Disney’s Animal Kingdom on a less crowded day might cost $137.39, but for Magic Kingdom on a peak day, like Christmas, it could go up to $478.19. Each guest can purchase only one Premier Pass per day. During the pilot phase, the service is exclusive to guests staying at Disney World’s deluxe hotels, who can buy the pass seven days before check-in.
At Disneyland in California, the process is more straightforward but still expensive. The pass, available to all guests, grants access to both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks for a day at the flat rate of $400. Guests can purchase the pass two days before their visit, starting at 7 a.m. Pacific Time.
Beyond the Multi Pass
Disney’s parks already offer access to “Lightning Lanes” (fast-pass queues) through the Multi Pass, which allows visitors to reserve Lightning Lane access one ride at a time via the Disney app. However, the Multi Pass requires guests to plan and schedule their rides within specific time windows.
The new Premier Pass simplifies things by allowing guests to skip lines without making prior reservations. However, it only allows access to each ride’s Lightning Lane once per day, in contrast to the Multi Pass, which offers multiple reservations throughout the day.
Premium Pricing for a Premium Experience
The high price of the Premier Pass aligns Disney with its competitors. Universal Studios, for example, has offered its own Express Pass for over 20 years, which allows guests to skip regular lines for an extra fee. At Universal Studios Hollywood, this pass costs between $80 and $170, while in Florida, it ranges from $111.81 to $319.49 for access to both of Universal Orlando’s parks. Universal also offers an “Express Pass Unlimited,” allowing multiple uses of the faster line per ride, priced between $143.76 and $351.44 depending on the day and park.
Unlike Universal’s unlimited service, Disney’s Premier Pass limits guests to one ride per attraction per day. Disney’s existing Multi Pass and Single Pass options will still be available, but the Premier Pass is designed for those seeking a no-fuss, line-skipping experience.
The Cost of Convenience
While the Premier Pass offers convenience, it’s not a necessity for most park visitors. Theme park pricing expert Don Munsil, who runs MouseSavers, notes that this premium service is aimed at a specific type of guest—those with both time and money to spare. He describes the Premier Pass as catering to people who “have money to burn – or are trying to get through everything as fast as possible.”
This new offering comes at a time when Disney is facing criticism for rising park prices. In response, the company has introduced discounted ticket options, including $50-per-day tickets for children visiting Disneyland in the new year.

On the other hand, the Premier Pass is designed for guests who value convenience over cost and are willing to pay a premium for a more streamlined experience.
