Disaster Affects Iowa High School: Ten Days After Heroic Act, Principal Dies from Injuries

Read Time:1 Minute, 54 Second

Tragically, ten days after protecting kids during the January 4th mass shooting, Dan Marburger, the devoted principle of Perry High School in Iowa, passed away. Marburger, the principal of the school since 1995, passed away from wounds he received in the attack that also killed 11-year-old Ahmir Jolliff.

The shooting occurred in the school cafeteria at breakfast, and the shooter was a 17-year-old student named Dylan Butler. Butler tragically committed suicide after firing randomly at employees and pupils. The Department of Public Safety characterised Marburger’s bravery as unselfish since it included placing himself in danger to save people entrusted to his care.

The distraught Marburger family, who recognised the principal’s ultimate sacrifice, revealed his departure on Sunday. Since its inception, a GoFundMe page established to assist the family has generated over $88,000, demonstrating the public’s deep appreciation and empathy for Marburger.

On the day of Marburger’s funeral, Governor Kim Reynolds expressed her deep sadness and issued an order for all Iowa flags to fly at half-staff until dusk. In a statement, Governor Reynolds praised Marburger’s bravery and said he will “forever be remembered for his selfless and heroic actions.”

Dan Marburger committed almost thirty years of his life to the Perry High School students. He is remembered as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. According to the GoFundMe page, “Dan’s family includes those who have ever walked the halls of Perry High School,” highlighting his close ties to the school community.

The other gunshot victim, Ahmir Jolliff, was remembered with affection as a happy child who enjoyed singing and football. Erica Jolliff, his mother, said he was gregarious and a devoted husband.

The Associated Press was informed by the gunman’s acquaintances that Dylan Butler was a reserved individual who had endured years of bullying, despite the fact that the authorities have not yet publicly disclosed a reason for the attack. Authorities found Butler carrying a small-caliber handgun and a pump-action shotgun. An improvised explosive device that was considered “pretty rudimentary” was also found and neutralised safely.

Dan Marburger was a true hero who gave his life to save the students and staff he loved so much. The Perry High School community, the state of Iowa, and the entire country are in deep mourning.
