Unexpectedly, Red Bull Racing’s team principal, Christian Horner, made a suggestion that Carlos Sainz may be signed for the 2025 Formula 1 season. Currently without a seat for the next season, Sainz has drawn interest from a number of clubs due to his incredible triumph over adversity.
Due to Lewis Hamilton’s transfer to Ferrari, the Spanish driver was unable to get a spot for the 2025 season. But Sainz’s incredible run of form, which included winning his third Formula One race only sixteen days after having an appendectomy, has surely attracted the attention of teams looking for a competitive driver for the next campaign.
While Sergio Perez’s contract with Red Bull expires at the end of 2024, questions remain over his future with the team, while the organization’s star driver, Max Verstappen, is committed to a long-term deal. In response to a query on Sainz’s potential recruitment, Horner said, “You couldn’t rule out any possibility based on a performance like that.” You’ve won today’s jobless driver contest really quickly.”
Horner recognized that, even with Red Bull’s history of developing inside talent, it was still necessary to look at possibilities outside of their driver pool. Despite Yuki Tsunoda’s encouraging start to the 2024 season, the squad is still looking at other options.
Sainz’s association with Red Bull began when he made his Toro Rosso debut in 2015, sharing the ride with Verstappen. Notably, by winning the sole Singaporean race that wasn’t contested by Red Bull, he prevented Red Bull from having a flawless 2023 season. His track record of accomplishments and familiarity with the group make him a desirable possibility.
Fascinatingly, Mercedes has also been mentioned as a possible suitor for Sainz. This may mean a straight swap for Hamilton, who just signed a multi-year contract with Ferrari.
Charles Leclerc finished in second position for Ferrari, who made it a momentous day with their first one-two finish since 2022. Sainz said, sarcastically, “I guess this is good for me, because I’m still unemployed for next year,” as he considered his uncertain future. Jokes aside, though, I am confident that I can do the task if I am given a nice automobile.”
Sainz’s performance does, in fact, highlight his skill behind the wheel and his capacity to produce quality work when given competitive equipment. The idea of seeing Sainz in Red Bull colors for the 2025 season is still enticing as rumors about his future get more intense.
