MIAMI – On Wednesday, Hurricane Kirk surged to Category 3 status in the Atlantic Ocean, maintaining winds of 120 mph (195 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center confirms the storm’s rapid intensification, though it currently poses no direct threat to land.
Kirk is currently situated approximately 1,150 miles east-northeast of the Lesser Antilles, advancing northwest at 12 mph. Meteorologists anticipate a northward shift in its trajectory later this week.
While no coastal alerts have been issued, the hurricane’s swells may impact Bermuda and the Leeward Islands. There’s potential for hazardous surf conditions and rip currents in these areas by the weekend.
