This week, the Trump team said something very bold about how the former president felt about people who had been convicted of crimes. The former president’s campaign spokeswoman said that Trump thinks “anyone convicted of a crime should spend time behind bars.” This comment came after Jaime A. Davidson was found guilty of domestic abuse charges and had her sentence reduced by Trump in 2021.

As part of a hush money payment case, Trump was found guilty by a Manhattan jury in May of 34 felonies for forging business records. His sentence is set for September 18, but Trump’s lawyers want it to be put off until after the 2024 presidential race.

It has been Trump’s constant claim that his conviction and other legal fights are politically driven, calling them “witch hunts.” Trump tried to move the hush money case to federal court on Tuesday, but a federal judge said no.

As the legal battles go on, Trump is now facing more charges of meddling in the election and leaking secret papers. He has pleaded not guilty to these charges. His case is still being closely watched, and important decisions are likely to be made soon before he is sentenced.
