Amorim: “We Are the Worst Team in Man Utd History”

Read Time:1 Minute, 49 Second

Rúben Amorim has made a startling declaration about Manchester United’s current struggles, calling his team “the worst in the history of Manchester United.” The blunt assessment followed Sunday’s dismal 3-1 loss to Brighton at Old Trafford.

Since Amorim took charge in November, replacing Erik ten Hag, United have endured a torrid run of six defeats in 11 Premier League matches. Despite his reputation as one of Europe’s promising young coaches, Amorim has yet to find solutions for his floundering squad.

“Imagine how the fans feel. Imagine how I feel,” Amorim said candidly. “We are losing more now than with the previous manager. I know it, and we have to face it to change it.”

United currently sit 13th in the league, 10 points clear of relegation, but their performances paint a bleak picture. Sunday’s game exposed their frailties, as Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh scored early to take the lead. Though Bruno Fernandes equalized with a penalty, second-half goals from Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter left United reeling.

The statistics are damning. United’s six home league defeats in 12 matches mark their worst start at Old Trafford since the 1893-94 season. Furthermore, losing 10 of their first 22 league games is their earliest descent into double-digit losses since the 1989-90 campaign.

Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 formation has come under scrutiny, as it appears unsuited to the current squad. Despite the pressure, the Portuguese coach remains firm in his approach. “I won’t change my philosophy. We need to survive this moment first. I’m not naive; I understand the urgency,” he stated.

Brought in with high expectations, Amorim faces a growing challenge to stabilize the team and turn their season around. Though they haven’t fully descended into the relegation battle, the threat looms closer with every underwhelming performance.

The task ahead is daunting: restoring confidence, adjusting tactics, and reigniting Manchester United’s competitive edge. For fans, the question remains—can Amorim pull the club out of its worst slump in recent memory, or will this season become a stain on the team’s storied legacy?

Time will determine the answer.
