AI-Modified Images to Get Clear Labels in Google Photos

Read Time:46 Second

Google Photos is rolling out a new feature to make AI editing more transparent. The platform will soon display clear labels indicating when artificial intelligence has altered an image. This update, launching next week, will show plain-text notifications for photos modified using AI features like Magic Editor or the video editing tools.

While Google Photos already embeds AI editing information in image metadata, the upcoming change introduces a dedicated “AI Info” panel within image details. This section will clearly indicate whether generative AI techniques were applied or if the image combines multiple shots without AI assistance, such as in the Best Take feature.

The initiative aligns with broader industry efforts, as major tech firms like Google enhance their platforms with AI editing capabilities while implementing policies to keep users informed about AI-modified content. This transparency-focused approach aims to maintain user trust as AI becomes increasingly prevalent in everyday applications.
