A union that represents Border Patrol agents has poked fun at President Joe Biden for his visit to the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas on the same day that former President Donald Trump also made a visit.
The National Border Patrol Council published a photo of Biden lounging on a beach along with a humorous account of his exploits while visiting a border town in Texas the previous week. The post described Biden’s alleged schedule in a lighthearted manner, complete with naps in between activities.
Representing about 18,000 Border Patrol agents and support staff, the National Border Patrol Council has criticized Biden’s administration for its lack of border security measures and has previously backed Trump.
The union took aim at Biden in a recent statement, asking him to accept responsibility for the crisis at the border rather than run away from it.
During his visit to a Border Patrol station in Brownsville, Texas, Biden acknowledged the difficult working circumstances faced by immigration, Border Patrol, and enforcement personnel while applauding their efforts.
Using a failed Senate immigration reform plan that was previously supported by the National Border Patrol Council as a model, Biden also sent a message to Trump during his speech, advocating bipartisan cooperation on border security legislation.
The union urged the bill’s passing despite its flaws, highlighting it as a move in the right direction toward resolving border security issues.
This conversation takes place in the midst of continuing political scheming and debates in the US about border security and immigration policy.
