Accepting Convenience: How the iPhone 15’s USB-C port Rekindled My Passion for Audio Devices

Read Time:3 Minute, 4 Second

To my surprise, the USB-C feature in the iPhone 15 series has caused a recent change in Apple’s technology to rekindle my interest in a long-forgotten audio device. This unexpected detour on my tech path has not only made my experience easier, but it has also given me a fresh perspective on how convenient USB-C is. Come along on this trip with me as I find the delights of wired audio again and examine how this transition has affected my daily routine.

The Memorable DAC Adventure:

The Chord Mojo 2 digital-to-analog converter (DAC) is where the narrative starts, not the iPhone. I got the chance to evaluate this amazing device back in 2022, and it made a big difference in the sound quality of my iPhone 13 Pro. But the process was complicated by the requirement for many dongles and connections, such as a USB-A-to-Micro-USB adapter and a Lightning-to-USB Camera Adaptor. Over time, the tangled jumble of cords lessened my enthusiasm for the Chord Mojo 2, even with its excellent sound quality.

The iPhone 15’s Switch to USB-C:

Time travel: in September 2023, Apple debuted the iPhone 15 series, which included the model I selected for the next year, the iPhone 15 Pro Max. After having the iPhone 15 for a few weeks, I revisited the Chord Mojo 2, which altered my mind regarding the USB-C transition because actual fast charging was not included. I was happy to see that the Chord Mojo 2 and iPhone 15 could be connected with just a USB-C connector, saving me from having to use several dongles and cables.

Reviving Focal Elegia’s Mojo 2:

I came into an alluring deal on the closed-back Focal Elegia headphones, which are renowned for having exceptional sound quality, around Black Friday. Inspired by the idea of using the Chord Mojo 2 to improve their performance, I decided to get it. I fell in love with the adaptable Mojo 2 again when I connected the Elegia’s large 3.5mm jack to the iPhone using a single USB-C connection. It was a memorable experience.

Rediscovering Wired Audio’s Joy:

Using the Chord Mojo 2’s equalization settings changed the game for the Focal Elegia headphones. Though the headphones had a dull sound right out of the box, I was able to bring out the best in the headphones because to the Mojo 2’s versatility. Even while the Elegias’ sound quality may not be as excellent as the Focal Stellia’s, the Mojo 2’s USB-C port has made it easier to use, which has helped me get over my disappointment and find the joy of just relaxing with music.

USB-C’s Convenience:

The iPhone 15’s USB-C port may not have invented rapid charging, but its added convenience is undeniable. Not only does the elimination of cables and dongles improve the functionality of the Mojo 2, but it also benefits other accessories that previously required separate components. The debut of USB-C on the Apple iPhone is something to rejoice, as this unexpected journey has shown that ease can often have an equal impact as technological breakthroughs.

Unexpectedly, the switch to USB-C on the iPhone 15 has reignited my interest in audio devices, especially the Chord Mojo 2 and Focal Elegia headphones. The user experience has been completely changed by USB-C’s ease of use and convenience, thus I really value Apple’s careful design decisions. This trip serves as a testament to the significant influence that seemingly little technical alterations can have on our everyday lives, even while I continue to bask in the beauty of connected audio.
