Following quick emergency repairs following a spectacular lorry fire, the A34 has been fully reopened. On Saturday, April 13, at around two in the morning, there was an incident that resulted in the closure of the A420 Botley interchange and the A423 at Hinksey Hill.
Prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, residents reported hearing several powerful explosions.
Both sides of the A34 suffered major damage from the fire that consumed the southbound carriageway, central reservation barrier, and nearside barrier. Yesterday afternoon saw the temporary closure of both carriageways, with the southbound carriageway reopening.
Resurfacing and lorry recovery works required overnight closures, which National Highways had anticipated would last into late Sunday morning.
But as of this morning (April 14), National Highways has verified that the emergency repairs have been finished, meaning that both lanes of the road are now open. The area’s delays have now passed.
The lorry driver was reported to have suffered minor injuries by Thames Valley Police; no additional casualties were reported related to the incident.
