In a startling turn of events, Wiebe Boer, the president of Calvin University, has resigned over claims of sending “inappropriate messages.”
Boer’s resignation was announced by the Board of Trustees on Monday. The reason given was that there had been “unwelcome and inappropriate communication” towards a university member who is not a student.
Even though there aren’t any claims of explicit sexual conversation or physical contact, the board thought Boer’s actions were improper and worrisome. The announcement stressed the university’s dedication to upholding a respectful and safe environment for every member of its community.
Boer acknowledged sending improper communications, which led him to decide to leave, even though he denied some of the accusations. Gregory Elzinga, the Vice President of Advancement, was named the acting president after the board accepted his resignation.
Boer became president in the summer of 2022, and the Calvin University community is shocked by his sudden resignation. As the issue develops, more remarks from Boer and the institution are anticipated.
