Early on Wednesday morning, a CH-53E Super Stallion, a missing military helicopter, was found in Southern California. Nonetheless, the U.S. Marine Corps stated that they are still looking for the five Marines that were on board.
The chopper was reported overdue to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar when it vanished on Tuesday while traveling from Nevada to California. It was headed for the San Diego suburb of Miramar, departing from Creech Air Force Base, which is close to Las Vegas.
The Civil Air Patrol and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department were among the authorities who joined the search. The atmospheric river storm that was sweeping the area presented difficulties, but search crews persisted, using off-road vehicles and helicopters to get over the difficult terrain.
At 9:08 a.m. on Wednesday, the helicopter’s location was verified. Karine Jean-Pierre, the press secretary for the White House, said that President Joe Biden has been informed of the circumstances. John Kirby, the national security spokesperson for the White House, stressed that the government is closely following the situation and expressed optimism for the best result.
