A 15-year-old adolescent has been taken into custody in relation to the unfortunate death of a 58-year-old Elgin bus driver. The attack happened on Friday night at a bus terminal, resulting in the hospitalisation and eventual death of the driver.
About 10.40 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, Police Scotland responded to the incident in the St Giles Road area of Elgin. The 58-year-old victim was taken by emergency personnel to Dr. Gray’s Hospital in Elgin, where he sadly passed away from his wounds.
Because of the ongoing police investigation, the bus operator, Stagecoach Bluebird, was obliged to cancel several routes from Elgin on Saturday morning. While expressing shock and sadness over the news, a representative for Stagecoach North Scotland emphasised that safety is their main concern and that these kinds of occurrences are extremely unusual. In addition to assisting the authorities with their investigation, the company is offering support to its coworkers and the relatives of the deceased.
The tragedy was described as “tragic and horrific” by Richard Lochhead, Moray MSP, expressing the community’s profound sorrow over the loss.
Investigations are still ongoing, but a spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed that the 15-year-old male youth has been arrested in relation to the incident.
