As we near the halfway point of the 2024-25 Premier League season, some of the league’s brightest stars are surprisingly struggling to find the back of the net. While players like Mohamed Salah, Cole Palmer, and Bryan Mbeumo have been in sensational form, several big names remain goalless.
Let’s take a closer look at nine players whose scoring droughts have left fans stunned.
1. Phil Foden
After clinching the Premier League Player of the Season award in 2023-24, Phil Foden entered the current campaign with high expectations. However, injuries and Manchester City’s inconsistent form have taken their toll on the 24-year-old.
Despite registering 24 shots in 11 league games, Foden has yet to score. With an average of 2.2 shots per game—the third highest in City’s squad—it’s surely a matter of time before the young star reignites his goal-scoring form.
2. Gabriel Jesus
Gabriel Jesus has struggled to make an impact this season, slipping behind Kai Havertz in Arsenal’s attacking hierarchy. The Brazilian has appeared in 13 matches but has accumulated just 266 minutes of playtime.
With an xG of 0.9, Jesus hasn’t capitalized on the few chances he’s had. However, his recent hat-trick in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace might spark a turnaround in his fortunes.
3. Eddie Nketiah
Eddie Nketiah’s summer move to Crystal Palace for £30 million hasn’t gone as planned. The 25-year-old has yet to score in 11 league appearances and is currently being used as a substitute, with Jean-Philippe Mateta preferred as the starting striker.
Nketiah needs to rediscover his form quickly to justify his hefty price tag.
4. Savinho
Manchester City fans were excited about Savinho’s arrival after his impressive nine-goal haul in La Liga last season. However, the 20-year-old has struggled to adapt to the Premier League.
Savinho has underperformed his xG by 2.1 goals—the largest underperformance among City players this season—leaving supporters eager to see him fulfill his potential.
5. Timo Werner
Timo Werner’s difficulties in front of goal continue as he remains scoreless in 13 league appearances for Tottenham.
While the German forward has provided three assists, he has yet to score under Ange Postecoglou’s management. At 28, Werner’s goal drought raises concerns about his future role in the team.
6. Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling’s prolific days of scoring 15+ goals a season now feel like a distant memory. After falling out of favor at Leicester City, Arsenal signed the 30-year-old on loan for the season.
Limited minutes in the league have kept Sterling off the scoresheet. Arsenal fans, however, are hopeful that the experienced winger can still make a meaningful impact this season.
7. Jack Grealish
Jack Grealish’s goal-scoring drought stretches beyond the Premier League—he hasn’t scored in any competition throughout 2024.
The Manchester City midfielder’s creativity remains valuable, but his inability to score is becoming increasingly noticeable. Will Grealish break his duck before the year ends?
8. Taiwo Awoniyi
At Nottingham Forest, Taiwo Awoniyi has found himself playing second fiddle to an in-form Chris Wood. Awoniyi has taken just four shots this season, making his lack of goals less surprising.
Still, Forest fans hope the 26-year-old can find a way to make a greater impact in the second half of the season.
9. Alexis Mac Allister
Known for his goal-scoring capabilities, Alexis Mac Allister has yet to open his account this season. Playing in a deeper role under Liverpool manager Arne Slot, Mac Allister’s offensive contributions have diminished, with fewer shots per game than in previous years.
With Mohamed Salah shouldering the bulk of Liverpool’s goal-scoring burden, the Reds could benefit greatly from Mac Allister rediscovering his scoring touch.
