AOC Becomes First Bluesky User to Hit 1M

Read Time:51 Second

U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has made history as the first individual user on Bluesky to surpass one million followers. The congresswoman, an active user since April 2023, reached this milestone on Monday, well ahead of the platform’s recent surge in popularity following the U.S. elections.

Bluesky’s user base has grown threefold in just three months, fueled by dissatisfaction with Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter). AOC addressed the shift in a recent post, saying, “People are leaving Twitter because it’s not fun anymore… It’s not rocket science.”

With 437 posts and a profile that emphasizes her grassroots origins, AOC has cultivated a significant following. Her audience now exceeds prominent figures like George Takei (862,646) and Mark Hamill (797,541).

While Bluesky’s official account remains the most followed with nearly 17 million followers, AOC’s achievement highlights the platform’s growing appeal to high-profile individuals. The decentralized network continues to gain traction as users explore alternatives to mainstream social media platforms.
