In a bold move, Ukraine has struck Russian naval assets over 1,000 km from the front lines in the Caspian Sea, targeting two missile frigates, Tatarstan and Dagestan, along with several “Project 21631” vessels docked in Dagestan’s Kaspiisk port on November 6, 2024. Footage circulating online appears to capture a large explosion striking one of the vessels.
While Ukrainian sources report significant impacts, Russian officials assert the attack was thwarted, leaving the actual damage uncertain. This incident underscores Ukraine’s expanding drone capabilities, previously focused on the Black Sea, to disrupt Russian forces and secure nearby waters. Extending its reach into Russian-controlled waters, this strike represents a significant escalation in Ukraine’s strategic operations.
