Ford has begun distributing its new Tesla Supercharger adapter, developed in collaboration with Lectron, to qualifying electric vehicle owners. This adapter enables Ford EVs equipped with CCS ports to connect with Tesla’s NACS charging infrastructure, expanding charging options for Ford’s electric fleet.
The release follows Ford’s initial adapter program launched earlier this year, which provided complimentary adapters to Mach-E and F-150 Lightning owners. After identifying potential charging speed issues with the original adapter that could affect charging port integrity, Ford temporarily suspended its use and committed to delivering an improved version.
The company confirmed on October 31 that shipments of the new Ford-branded adapters have commenced. According to a Ford representative, customers will receive either the new Ford-branded Fast Charging Adapter or the previously approved version, based on current inventory.
This initiative reflects a broader industry shift toward Tesla’s NACS charging standard, with manufacturers like Nissan, GM, and Subaru also securing agreements to access Tesla’s charging network. Tesla maintains approximately 19,000 DC fast chargers across the United States, contributing to a global network of over 62,000 chargers as reported in Q3 2024.
By enhancing charging compatibility, Ford strengthens its commitment to electric vehicle adoption while providing its customers with more convenient charging solutions through access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network.
