Historic Deluge Forces Sports Cancellations in Valencia

Read Time:42 Second

Valencia’s most devastating storm since 1973 has unleashed a year’s equivalent of rain within hours, prompting major sports events to halt operations. The extreme weather event has triggered extensive flooding across the region.

The Valencia MotoGP, which was to serve as this season’s final race, has been called off. The racing organization has pivoted its focus to community support, announcing “In lieu of racing in Valencia, MotoGP will instead race for Valencia,” and committing resources to local relief efforts.

Similarly, all regional football matches have been suspended by Spanish football authorities, including a key clash between Real Madrid and Valencia. Real Madrid has stepped forward with a €1 million (about $1.08 million) donation to support flood victims.

Local authorities, alongside government and community groups, continue their emergency response efforts to assist those impacted by this unprecedented natural disaster.
