South Korea appears to be taking steps toward deeper involvement in the Ukrainian theater, with plans focused on tracking North Korean military activities in the region. Yonhap News Agency reports that Seoul is evaluating the deployment of a specialized military intelligence team to Ukraine, whose primary mission would be to observe North Korean forces supporting Russian operations.
The proposed team would comprise intelligence specialists with expertise in combat tactics, who could also assist in debriefing North Korean soldiers captured during the conflict.
This initiative signals a potential evolution in Seoul’s diplomatic stance, as officials also weigh the possibility of providing military aid to Ukraine. A source informed Yonhap that the government would “implement response measures gradually while tracking indicators of military cooperation between North Korea and Russia.”
