X’s Brazil Service Restoration Delayed Due to Misdirected Fine Payment

Read Time:55 Second

According to Reuters, X (formerly Twitter) is facing additional setbacks in resuming its operations in Brazil after allegedly transferring court-mandated fines to an incorrect bank account. The social media platform has been unavailable in the country since late August.

Despite X’s compliance with judicial directives to remove accounts disseminating misinformation and designate a legal representative, the payment mishap is now extending the service suspension. Brazil’s Supreme Court had stipulated that X must pay approximately $5 million in penalties before it could resume services.

On Friday, Justice Alexandre de Moraes announced that the fines were mistakenly sent to the wrong financial institution, leading to an unforeseen delay. X maintains that it has correctly paid the fines and has appealed for the reinstatement of its services. However, the court will not proceed with its decision until the funds are properly transferred to the designated account.

Initially resistant to Brazil’s court orders, X later changed its stance, pledging to cooperate with the government to reactivate its platform. In the meantime, Brazilian users remain unable to access X’s services until the payment issue is resolved.
