A recent encounter between a Russian Su-35 and a U.S. F-16 over Alaska has sparked safety concerns. On September 23, 2024, the Russian jet performed a risky maneuver, flying dangerously close to the American aircraft during a routine intercept within the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) condemned the action as “unsafe and unprofessional.” A video released by NORAD shows the Russian Su-35 sharply banking near the U.S. fighter jet, prompting swift criticism from military leaders. General Gregory Guillot, Commander of NORAD, stated that the event posed significant risks to both aircrews and did not meet the professional conduct expected.
