One of the best midfielders in football history, Cesc Fabregas, recently named his four favorite friends from his long career. Fabregas has played with some of the best players in the game at big teams like Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Monaco. During an interview on “The Rest Is Football Podcast,” Fabregas talked about his choices, but he couldn’t name Lionel Messi. These are the four sports icons he chose:
Iker Casillas, Spain’s legendary goalkeeper
In their time on the Spanish national team, Fabregas and Iker Casillas won a lot of games together, even though they never played for the same club. Fabregas chose Casillas because they had both been on the world stage during times of great success, pointing out the goalkeeper’s important role during Spain’s golden age.
“I am going to go for Iker Casillas for the moments that we shared with the national team,” he said.
Spain won the European Championship back-to-back in 2008 and 2012, as well as the historic World Cup in 2010. Casillas was a key part of it all. It is clear that Casillas is one of the best goalkeepers in football history because he kept all three games clean.
Carles Puyol: The Leader of the Warriors
Carles Puyol was chosen by Fabregas because he is a great leader and loves protecting. Even though Puyol wasn’t the most highly skilled player, his heart and drive on the field made him an important part of the team.
“I’m going to pick Puyol because he wasn’t the best football player, but I miss players who love to defend,” Fabregas said. “He was an honest soldier.”
Puyol played his whole career for Barcelona and won 20 big wins, including the 2010 World Cup and three UEFA Champions Leagues. He was one of the most recognized football leaders because he worked hard all the time and could get his team to work together.
Andres Iniesta: The Star of the Midfield
There haven’t been many better midfielders in football history than Andres Iniesta. Fabregas, who played with Iniesta for years at Barcelona and with Spain, said that the fellow Spaniard was the best player he had ever played with.
Fané said, “I’m going to pick Iniesta.” “For me, Iniesta is the most complete.”
They had many beautiful moments together on the field, including Fabregas’s famous pass to Iniesta in the 2010 World Cup final, which led to Spain’s historic win. It was fun to watch Iniesta play because he could dribble through tight areas, make accurate passes, and stay calm under pressure. He was also a great partner.
Thierry Henry is Arsenal’s best striker.
Fabregas couldn’t finish his list without talking about a famous Arsenal player. Fabregas hailed Thierry Henry for his amazing ability to dominate defenses because they played together when they were younger in North London.
The player said, “Thierry Henry is my choice.” “When he was on his day, he was unstoppable.”
They worked well together at Arsenal and were very dangerous. Henry scored seven goals with Fabregas’s help, and the two of them won two titles together. Henry was one of the best players in Premier League history because of how fast, skilled, and able to finish. He was a problem for defenders.
It has been an honor for Fabregas to play with some of the best football players ever. The players he chose—Casillas, Puyol, Iniesta, and Henry—are all leaders, skilled, and undeniably great. Even though Lionel Messi wasn’t on this list, these four stars had a huge effect on Fabregas’ career and on football in general.
