“Viral Olympic Breaker Raygun Rises to No. 1 Even Though Losing in Paris”

Read Time:1 Minute, 36 Second

The new results from the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) show that Rachael Gunn, better known as B-Girl Raygun, is the best female breakdancer in the world. Many people are surprised by Raygun’s rise to the top of the polls, especially after her pointless act at the Paris Olympics that went viral.

To get into the Olympics, Raygun had to win the 2023 WDSF Oceania Championships, which gave her 1,000 ranking points. But she didn’t get a single point at the Olympics. Japan’s B-Girl Ami (gold), Lithuania’s B-Girl Nicka (silver), and China’s B-Girl 671 (bronze) are the only female Olympic medalists who are not currently ranked in the top 10 in the world.

What Raygun Did to Get to No. 1

Fans and haters alike have asked how Raygun got to the top, given how poorly she did at the Olympics. The WDSF made it clear in a statement that the standings are based on the four best efforts by each breaker in the past year. Because points were lost after 52 weeks, some big games, like the Olympics and the Olympic qualifiers in Shanghai and Budapest, did not count toward the ranks.

This meant that none of the medalists got rating points from the Olympics, even though they did very well. The WDSF also said that rating events would not happen from December 2023 until the end of the Paris Olympics so that players could fully prepare for the games.

Because of this, most events’ points are no longer good. Raygun’s win at the Oceania Championships is still one of the few recent events with valid points. Since there were no new events that gave points, her win in that competition put her at the top.

At the moment, Raygun is ranked number one in the world, which shows how unpredictable the scoring system is in breakdancing, which is becoming an Olympic sport.
