Read Time:1 Minute, 35 Second

The great Formula One driver Fernando Alonso has given fans a peek of what his post-F1 career plans are, and winning the coveted Dakar Rally is at the top of his list. Alonso, who leads the F1 record with 391 Grand Prix starts, has made insinuations that he may announce his retirement from the sport after the conclusion of the 2026 campaign.

The 43-year-old Spaniard discussed his hopes of winning another Formula One World Championship in an interview with Aston Martin’s official website. He has already won two championships while racing for Renault (now Alpine), in 2005 and 2006. A third-world championship would be “the highlight of my career and probably my life,” according to Alonso.

The seasoned driver is anticipated to retire in 2026 when his current deal with Aston Martin expires, according to Flavio Briatore, Alonso’s manager. Alonso, however, says that winning the title with Aston Martin is still his first aim and that he is now just focused on Formula One.

Alonso’s competitive nature keeps pushing him to take on new tasks even outside of Formula One. His sights are on the Dakar Rally, which he has already competed in, and he has also thought about making a run at the Indianapolis 500 in the future, but he is not sure if he would pursue the latter. “Winning the Dakar Rally is still on the wishlist,” Alonso stated. Naturally, the Indianapolis 500, although I’m not sure if I’ll do it again. However, I certainly will do Dakar.

Alonso’s desire to accomplish the incredible trifecta of winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Dakar Rally, and the Formula One World Championship would solidify his reputation as one of the sport’s most skilled and adaptable drivers. Alonso’s ambition to do better keeps his remarkable career going, as he is now ranked tenth among drivers in the 2024 Formula One Championship.
