The Pentagon said late on Sunday that the US is rapidly increasing its military presence in the Middle East by sending a guided-missile submarine and a carrier strike group. This action is a reaction to the rising tensions in the area and the mounting concerns that Iran and its allies may strike Israel.
USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group Accelerated Deployment
The USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group has been instructed by Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to expedite its journey to the Middle East. Originally stationed in the Western Pacific, the Lincoln has been ordered to sail swiftly toward the area, where fears of hostilities between Israel and troops supported by Iran have been growing. The strike group is anticipated to supplement the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group’s current capabilities. The strike group has been positioned in the Gulf of Oman.
Carrier Strike Group 3’s flagship, USS Abraham Lincoln, is outfitted with a cutting-edge air wing that consists of a squadron of F-35C stealth aircraft. These fifth-generation aircraft can carry out a wide range of tasks, including as electronic warfare, air superiority, and information, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations. USS Georgia: A Disturbance of Provocation
