The FBI informed former President Donald Trump on fresh, previously unreported details about the 20-year-old Pennsylvania man who came dangerously close to killing him at a rally last month during a secret meeting last week. Only three minutes or so had passed after the person on the roof was initially seen by police officers, and they didn’t discover the person was carrying a weapon until around 30 seconds before the first shots were fired.
Law Enforcement’s Role: A Close Call
As the incident’s circumstances came to light, Trump discovered that a local law enforcement official had made an effort to scale the roof where Crooks was stationed. The cop immediately fell to the ground, hurting his ankle, when he spotted Crooks holding the weapon. The officer then made an effort to notify other law enforcement of the danger.
The Butler Township Police Department released body-worn camera footage on Thursday, which shows this emotional moment. The dramatic scene when one cop is carried onto the roof and then falls back down after coming into contact with Crooks is shown on camera, as well as the officers’ desperate attempts to find a way onto the roof.
