Google wants to make it easier for parents to supervise their kids’ screen time, so it’s bringing its School Time feature to more Android smartphones. This feature is now accessible on several Android phones, tablets, and Samsung Galaxy watches. It was first released for Fitbit Ace LTE smartwatches in May. Google hasn’t said which devices will get this update, though.
School Time gives parents the ability to restrict what their kids may do on their devices during set periods, like class or any other time when they should be minimizing screen usage. Parents can block access to particular applications and alerts during School Time by setting hours using the Family Link parental controls app. This allows for emergency communication while also ensuring that kids stay engaged when needed.
School Time establishes a specific home page with few alerts when it is activated. Parents may allow messages and calls from particular people, as well as select which applications are still accessible. This function aims to lessen user distractions for younger users, encouraging a better ratio of technology use to other activities.
In 2022, Google redesigned Family Link, their platform for monitoring kids’ mobile usage, to make it simpler for parents to use and manage. Google’s commitment to offering tools for improved digital wellness is shown by the feature’s growth, even though the firm has not yet revealed which devices will support School Time.
An analogous tool called Schooltime is accessible to Apple users and provides features akin to controlling screen time and sustaining concentration at critical times.
