The contentious radio conversation between three-time world champion Max Verstappen and his engineer during Sunday’s thrilling race against Lewis Hamilton has been brought up by Red Bull team manager Christian Horner.
In the first turn of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Verstappen and his Mercedes opponent collided due to a double lock-up. Gianpiero “GP” Lambiase sent Verstappen a fairly cryptic radio message after the incident, which made many assume the Dutchman’s longtime mechanic had dubbed Verstappen “childish.”
But Horner has subsequently explained the circumstances. He clarified that although Lambiase’s message may have been communicated more effectively, Verstappen was not the intended target of the abuse. Lambiase’s reply followed Verstappen’s car’s wheel colliding with Hamilton’s, sending Verstappen aloft.
