Storms to Hit South of France – Weekend Weather Outlook July 6-7

Read Time:1 Minute, 46 Second

This weekend, a round of storms is expected to reach the south and east of France, briefly replacing the balmy weather with a lot of rain. On Saturday, some areas could see up to 50 mm of rain, but many places will see milder temperatures again in the coming days.

A stormy sky is anticipated.

Despite cloudy skies, Friday, July 5th, is expected to reach 34°C in the south-west and approximately 30°C in the remainder of the south. Temperatures in the north will be between 20°C and 25°C, which is typical for the season.

Storms are expected to begin on Friday evening as a result of a clash between the warm southern winds that are creating high temperatures and the cooler northern winds. The first wave of inclement weather is expected to hit the south-west, especially the coastline and Pays-Basque regions.

Storms becoming stronger on Saturday

Storms are expected to travel north and east over the night and into Saturday, July 6, affecting the central region of France and causing strong storms in the Rhône valley. These storms have the potential to approach the German border in the north. On Saturday, there may be up to 50 mm of rain in places close to the Alps and Jura mountains.

Sunday will see cooler temperatures

Stormy weather will clear by Sunday, July 7, while much of the nation will still see somewhat below-average temperatures. Highs in the hinterlands of the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur area will still reach 32°C, while temperatures along the Mediterranean coastline will hover around 30°C. Beginning early next week, the south is expected to continue to experience warm weather, while the rest of the nation will gradually see rising temperatures and sunny skies.

As of right now, there are no severe weather advisories in relation to the storms. For Saturday’s weather, some southern departments are, nevertheless, under a tier-two yellow warning. If the storms get worse throughout the weekend, this might not be the case.

Keep checking back for additional weather updates and get ready for the impending storms.
