A passenger who caused chaos shortly after takeoff forced a Jet2 flight from Glasgow to reroute.
On Wednesday at around 4 p.m., the plane took off from the biggest city in Scotland, heading for Tenerife. Nevertheless, it was forced to make an almost instantaneous reroute in midair after a purportedly inebriated passenger started fighting with other passengers and airline personnel.
Police boarded the aircraft after the airliner made an unplanned stop at Shannon Airport in Ireland. Officers are seen removing the individual from the aircraft in onboard video. The passenger was reportedly shackled with his arms behind his back and being pulled by his legs by a police wearing a seatbelt, according to The Scottish Sun.
An official from the Gardaí announced: “A man in his 20s was arrested by Gardaí connected to Shannon Airport after an incident occurred on board an aircraft that was diverted to Shannon Airport earlier this evening, Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at about 5.30pm. The man was taken into custody by Gardaí on sight, in accordance with the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act of 1997. He is being held at a County Clare Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. There are still investigations underway.
The Sun was informed by a Jet2 representative that the incident had occurred: “We can confirm that flight LS155 from Glasgow to Tenerife has diverted to Shannon Airport this afternoon so that police could offload a disruptive passenger.”
