After a devastating lorry fire that created significant delays and congestion for commuters, the A1(M) near Doncaster has reopened.
Both carriageways were closed at 07:15 BST after authorities received reports of a burning car between junctions 34 and 35.
Following hours of careful work, the northbound road reopened just after 18:15 BST, while the southbound lane reopened around 11:30 BST.
“The lorry involved in the morning’s fire has been successfully removed, and all lanes are now accessible,” a National Highways spokeswoman stated.
Thankfully, no injuries were recorded. The representative did, however, issue a warning that while traffic starts to settle, lingering delays might continue.
The truck that caught fire earlier in the day was captured in dramatic footage that demonstrated the severity of the disaster.
A National Highways spokesperson said that the considerable damage to the truck posed significant obstacles for recovery operations.
Six fire engines were sent to put out the fire by the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, with assistance from two units of the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The A1(M) near Doncaster has reopened, providing commuters and other travelers with much-needed relief. However, as traffic resumes, police are advising caution.
