At a New Mexico charter school graduation ceremony, a 21-year-old man is accused of shooting his stepmother as she went to give him a congrats. It was an unexpected turn of events. The community is in shock and astonishment at the event that happened at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Following his stepmother’s shooting on Wednesday, May 8, Cristian Bencomo was taken into custody, according to the Albuquerque Police Department. According to reports, cops were called in panic about shooting breaking out nearby, and they proceeded to the area.
Law officials initially thought there may be an active shooter situation, but they quickly learned there had only been one gunshot. The head of communications for the department, Gilbert Gallegos, said in a social media video that the probe uncovered an alarming chain of events.
Witnesses describe a touching graduation ceremony that suddenly took a sad turn. When the abrupt outburst of violence broke the peace, Mary Ward, who was there, characterized the atmosphere as happy. Just as the students were about to celebrate their successes, they were thrown into a confused and chaotic situation.
